Objective: To explore the pathogenesis of oral submucous fibrosis ( OSF) by observing the effect of Aqueous areca nut extract ( AANE) on the level of tumor necrosis factor α( TNF α) produced by oral keratinocytes.

The purpose of this study was to establish the animal model of oral submucous fibrosis ( OSF) in buccal mucosa of SD rats by submucosa injecting and surface painting aqueous areca nut extracts ( AANE).
