这两个词都表示“除…外”。but和except都表示从整体中除去部分,但在but的句子里,着重在整体; 在用except的句子里,着重在除去的部分。
1.however是一个词, how ever是两个词,其中第二个词ever起加强语气的作用。
2.however和no matter how的意思都是“不管…怎样”,但前者为书面语; 后者多用于口语。
3.but和however用作连词时,都可以连接两个相反的观念和事物,但but所表示的是非常明显的对比,其连接部分必须是两个并列对等的成分; however是正式的用语,通常连接两个句子或作插入语用,是将后者和前者加以比较从而看出后者和前者意思相反。
这些前置词或短语都含“除……之外”之意。
besides着重于指另外还有。
but侧重指不包括在内。
except侧重于排除在外，从整体里减去。可与but换用，但语气较强。
except for多用于在说明基本情况或对主要部分加以肯定，还引出相反的原因或细节，从而部分地修正前面的主要意思，含惋惜意味。
